'WAVING' A BIG CHEQUE FOR OMAN'S ENVIRONMENT

The Environmental Challenge Oman 2008, a project spearheaded by Eventscom Oman, and proudly sponsored by The Wave, Muscat, succeeded in diverting public attention back to the preservation of our environment, and in doing so raised over 5000 Omani Rials for the Environment society of Oman. The Wave, Muscat was gold sponsor of the Environmental Challenge Oman 2008, that occurred over two days, and included workshops, seminars, a beach clean up and exciting team challenges. Organised in association with the Environment Society of Oman, the challenge targeted recycling and waste management issues and was .designed to promote team work, encouraging participants to take action for this worthy cause.

A prestigious ceremony was held recently to hand a giant sized cheque to the value of RO 5XXX.000 over to the Environment Society of Oman. Members of Oman's media, organisers and sponsors of the event were all in attendance.

Nick Smith, CEO of The Wave, Muscat, said: “It is a great privilege and honour to contribute to this significant cause. As a leading property developer in Oman, we are very proud of the outcome and funds raised from this important event, and the overwhelming response from the public towards the Environmental Challenge 2008 is definitely a sign of a positive change.”

Focussing on ways to preserve and protect our surroundings, the Environmental Challenge also set out to ensure that future generations will enjoy the stunning Omani landscape; by moving people to consciously assist in keeping Oman clean and beautiful

Her Highness Sayyida Tanya al Said, Vice President of the Environment Society of Oman added: "The Environmental Challenge Oman 2008 was a non-profit event that re-united us to take action and preserve our fragile environment. We are really overjoyed that over 5000 Rials was raised and presented to us, and we thank the sponsors and public for their kind support."

Omani based events and public relations firm Eventscom initiated the Environmental Challenge to bring a cross section of the community together for the spectacular 2 day event. Salma Al Hashmi, Managing Director of Eventscom said: “The Wave, Muscat joined our challenge at a very early stage, and that should serve as a great indication of their social commitment to Oman, its environment, and its people.”

The activities at the event included a delightful tree planting ceremony, drawing competition for kids, and exciting inter-school competitions focused on recycled waste collection. The organisers of this event will not rest on their laurels and intend to make initiatives such as this a mainstay in Oman's social calendar.
